Legislação ambiental e expansão agrícola: questões socioambientais do cerrado piauiense

Abstract

Agribusiness has proved it self as a dynamic sector of the Brazilian economy, especially the cerrado is characterized by the systematization and verticalization of the production, processing, transportation and commercialization of agricultural goods, validated by the integration between field, industry and services. However, agribusiness is marked by recent and intense technical, social and environmental changes in rural areas. In view of the changes brought about by agribusiness, particularly on land, labor and the environment, this research questions the process of development and consolidation of agribusiness in the Piauí Cerrado, given the social and environmental contradictions that arise. The general objective was to analyze the diffusion and intensification of agribusiness in the Brazilian cerrado and Piauí, as well as the role of institutional mechanisms for sustainable development aimed at the exploitation of the primary economy. As specific objectives, agribusiness was discussed, highlighting the political / economic and environmental factors inherent in the expansion in the cerrado; we identified the positive and negative impacts generated by the diffusion of agribusiness; environmental legislation related to the control and control of the exploitation of natural resources; and reflected on the prospects for interaction (or not) between sustainable development and agribusiness. The research has descriptive / explanatory nature, based on bibliographical and documentary information, and is structured in the dialectical method. It was concluded that the change to the new paradigm of sustainable development is important for the country, presenting proposals such as agroecology for the improvement of social and environmental.
