Abstract

This research discusses the teaching practice and teaching of mathematics in Youth and Adult Education – EJA, focusing on the teaching practice in the teaching of mathematics, highlighting the way in which the teaching and learning of mathematics are conducted in EJA, which often neglect the life experiences and informal knowledge that students have acquired throughout their lives, resulting in a disconnect between formal mathematics and the sociocultural reality of students. The questions are directed to understand the difficulties and challenges faced by educators and students in teaching and learning mathematics in EJA. The general objective of the research is to understand the teaching practice of mathematics teaching in youth and adult education – EJA; The specific objectives are: to know the teaching practice of mathematics teaching in EJA, to verify the difficulties of students in the teaching- learning process of mathematics in EJA and to identify the instruments used in the teaching of mathematics to assist the teaching practice in EJA. The methodological path was bibliographic and documentary research, important to understand the topic under discussion. The need for more effective and expressive pedagogical practices for the teaching of mathematics is emphasized, considering the reality of EJA and aiming at meaningful learning.
