Abstract

The legislation defends that deaf students share the same learning environment as hearing students and, for this, assures them a professional in LIBRAS (Brazilian Sign Language), the interpreter, to work in the classroom. The merit of teaching in LIBRAS, in the classroom, is directly related to the culture of the deaf person in relation to their language is confirmed by several theorists on the subject. Thus, the research aimed to survey the teaching and learning of chemistry for deaf students, survey data on the level of communication of deaf students in the classroom during chemistry classes and the difficulties of interpreters in classes. This survey was carried out through questionnaires and observations; where the subjects involved in the research could expose the difficulties faced in communicating during these classes. The applied methodology was through semi-quantitative research. The results start from the analysis of interviews, questionnaires and data collection where the analyzes and discussions were made, resulting in communication difficulties existing between teachers-interpreters-students, due to little or no terminology in chemistry.
