Caracterização morfológica de uma espécie do gênero Croton L. (Euphorbiaceae) no município de São João do Piauí

Abstract

Morphological characterization plays a very important role in providing the experimental basis, aiding in the identification and classification of species, helping to understand their diversity and serving as a basis for any experiment with plants. This study aims to contribute to the knowledge of the floristic diversity present in the municipality of São João do Piauí, southeastern Piauí, based on the morphological characterization of the plant genus Croton L.. The research is basic, descriptive and qualitative in nature, and was carried out in the municipality of São João do Piauí. The specimens were collected at two points, near the Jenipapo dam, following methodological paths such as collection, herborization, identification and incorporation into the herbarium. From the morphological analysis it was possible to collect data on the habit, root, stem, leaf, reproductive organs, inflorescence and fruit of the plant, as well as its identification at the level of Family and Genus. Therefore, it can be inferred that the study provided the morphological characterization of a specimen belonging to the Croton L. genus and elucidated a series of characteristics, reinforcing the importance of documenting morphological characteristics for future research and for understanding the biodiversity of the Caatinga.
