Abstract

Urban afforestation is an effective way of dealing with phenomena such as rising global temperatures and the climate crises that are plaguing the planet. The present study aimed to carry out a floristic survey in a newly created neighborhood and in a fragment of preserved vegetation adjacent to it in the city of Valença do Piauí, to understand the tree-shrub components with a view to subsidizing future environmental education actions. Regarding the research typology, the present work constitutes a descriptive research on the composition of the native flora, in two areas in the city of Valença do Piauí, where a floristic survey was carried out with individuals with shrubby-arboreal habits collected through walks. random. The material collected following the usual techniques for work in plant taxonomy was photographed, with its data recorded in a field notebook and later taken to the IFPI/CAVAL Biology laboratory for identification. 12 species were listed, distributed in 6 families and 9 genera. Among the taxa sampled, we highlight Parkia platycephala Benth., Combretum leprosum Mart. and Byrsonima cydoniifolia A. Juss, which were some of the individuals found in the research and which can be used in landscaping, in the recovery of degraded areas and in the regional economy. It is salutary to state that this research constitutes an imminent tool for the practice of environmental education through urban afforestation by listing botanical identification and use of native taxa in the municipality of Valença do Piauí. Furthermore, these results aim to reduce the use of exotic species and enhance local flora.
