Compreensão e mensuração da biodiversidade: o que sabem os alunos do curso de ciências biológicas?

Abstract

Biodiversity is a widely studied topic in Biological Sciences degree programs, and understanding it is essential for future educators who will work in this field within the educational context. Therefore, this study investigates the understanding of biodiversity among incoming and graduating students of Biological Sciences degree programs at institutions in Piauí and Ceará. Using online questionnaires with open and closed questions, the study assessed these students' knowledge of biodiversity components and measurement methods, as well as the graduating students' perception of the biodiversity of the biomes they live in. The results showed that, although both groups have similar perceptions of the concept of biodiversity, the graduating students have more robust concepts of the term and a deeper and more detailed understanding of its components and measurement methods. Additionally, the graduating students demonstrated knowledge of the biomes they live in. These findings suggest that the different stages of academic training impacted the knowledge of specific content within the biodiversity theme
