dc.description.abstract In front of growing global energy demand, photovoltaic solar energy is one of the most cost-effective and available sources, and being named as the main energy source until 2035 by the International Energy Agency. Brazil stands out as a country with excellent conditions for the use of photovoltaic systems, which have been expanding increasingly due to the modalities of use and sharing of distributed generation systems allowed by REN 687: 2015, published by ANEEL. However, points such as the cost of acquisition and lack of knowledge about technology have slowed the growth of the sector and led many Brazilians to purchase poorly designed systems, resulting in security risks and much lower than expected returns. Therefore, this work aimed to prove that a well-designed grid-connected photovoltaic system is a good investment for residential cases. For that, a case study was conducted for a residence in Teresina - PI. With help of specialized software, it was possible to size and budget the generator components, the generation estimates over the years and a fixing structure capable of optimizing the generation and providing reliability to the system. A financial viability analysis was then carried out for a 25-year period using NPV, IRR, payback and PI (profitability index) values commonly used by organizations for project selection. The result of the sizing was a 32-panel generator in a garage roof structure with an estimated generation of 19.9MWh / year budgeted at R $ 61,200.00 at work point. Finally, it was concluded that the photovoltaic system is indeed a great investment option for the case evaluated, with NPV of R $ 625,199.14, an IRR of 34%, an PI of 11.22 and a payback of 3.1 yearspt_BR
