Áreas verdes: caracterização e mapeamento na cidade de Timon-MA

Abstract

The general objective of this study was to characterize and map the green areas of the city of Timon, with a special focus on three squares, two parks and a central flowerbed. The specific objectives include describing the natural and artificial elements that make up the green areas, investigating how the population uses them, defining and classifying them, and spatializing the distribution of leisure and social spaces in the city. The methodology used in the study was divided into three stages: the first involves bibliographic research; the second involves on-site observation; and the third is the mapping of the squares, flowerbeds and parks. The results reveal that the six areas analyzed face significant challenges related to shading and, consequently, to rising temperatures, due to the lack of planted trees. In addition, these areas require maintenance of the artificial elements and street furniture, many of which are considerably damaged and not in suitable conditions for use. These factors negatively impact the population's search for these areas as alternative leisure options. However, it is worth noting that the city has 37 green areas distributed unevenly among the various neighborhoods; While some have a reasonable amount of green areas, others do not. Furthermore, it is essential to highlight that Timon's master plan is outdated and there is no technical plan for afforestation in force, documents that are essential for efficient public management that guarantees the creation, planning, conservation and preservation of the city's green areas.
