A influência do professor de matemática na escolha da carreira profissional do aluno

Abstract

This paper aims to reflect on the role that, mainly, the high school mathematics teacher has in the formation of the student and in his choice for the professional career after completing high school. A qualitative research was carried out with the participation of ten students from two public schools in the city of Corrente-PI. It was initially considered the analysis of which factors influence the professional choice, focusing on the role of the mathematics teacher in this decision. The data were collected through a semi structured interview with these students in order to analyze if they intend to do a graduation, how they arrived at the decision for a specific course and how the mathematics and the teacher of that discipline influenced that choice. The results indicate that the teacher contributes to the choice when he or she has a good didactic or not, making the student to approach or move away from the discipline and, consequently, the exact area at the moment of the decision. They also point out that for many times the teacher is responsible for clarifying doubts about higher education and giving advice to the student based on his or her life experience.
