dc.description.abstract This article presents the results of a research carried out at the Higher Fashion Design Course at the Federal Institute of Piauí, which aimed to analyze the impacts of the Barbie doll as a youthful fashion model and how it can influence the self-esteem of children and adolescents who are their main consumer public. For this, a survey was carried out from the emergence of dolls to contemporaneity, where it is possible to find different models of Barbie bodies in toy windows, as the doll has undergone changes in its body shape and aesthetics. The theoretical foundation was developed from the reading of some authors such as Michel Foucault (1996) and Roveri (2012). Barbie has always been the target of criticism for presenting unattainable aesthetic standards, with her too thin waist, blonde and blue eyes, a typical European aesthetic standard, so Mattel, the company responsible for the doll, has launched a new line of Barbies entitled "Barbie Fashionistas 2016 " in which it introduces three new body types – "Tall", "Curvy and "Petite". in order to compare the Barbie Curvy biotype, which is the curvilinear Barbie, with the traditional Barbie biotype. In the end, we concluded that, although Barbie Curvy does not represent a plus size or totally curvilinear woman, the 2016 collection is a good step towards representativeness and inclusion in Barbie's fashion world.pt_BR
