Resumo
This article aims to promote knowledge about the diversity of fossil trunks in the collection of the Geology
and Paleontology Laboratory / Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Piauí, Teresina
Central campus. This work enables researchers in the area to engage in new research on this material,
contributing to the paleoenvironmental knowledge of the Pedra de Fogo Formation, Permian, of the
Parnaíba Sedimentary Basin. These fossils were collected in the cities of Porto Alegre, Ribeiro
Gonçalves, Antônio Almeida and Santa Filomena, in the state of Piauí. This material is a tool for activities
involving scientific literacy, teaching paleobotany and environmental education, especially
geoconservation and preservation of fossiliferous strata. The fossils present in the Pedra de Fogo
Formation enable the construction of significant learning in the formation of citizens committed to
preserving the environment and engaging in the construction of heritage education. Furthermore, fossils
can serve as an instrument for understanding the fossilization process, something extremely rare, which
requires everyone's commitment to its preservation. To this end, an educational booklet was created as
a teaching tool for the study of fossils and their preservation.
