dc.description.abstract The RIDE of Greater Teresina was established by Complementary Law (LC) nº. 112, of September 19, 2001, and regulated by Federal Decree nº. 4.367, of September 9, 2002. It covers the municipalities of Altos, Beneditinos, Coivaras, Curralinhos, Demerval Lobão, José de Freitas, Lagoa Alegre, Lagoa do Piauí, Miguel Leão, Monsenhor Gil, Pau d’Arco do Piauí, Teresina and União, in Piauí, in addition to the municipality of Timon, in Maranhão. These municipalities occupy an area of 11.321 km². Created over twenty years ago, the RIDE of Greater Teresina has over 1 million and 200 thousand inhabitants. Given this large population agglomeration, the natural landscape is constantly changing, especially the vegetation cover, which is affected by urban expansion. Therefore, the use of geotechnologies is of utmost importance to analyze the variation in vegetation cover, more specifically the use of remote sensing, in this way it is possible to measure and analyze the changes in this component of the landscape through the acquired data. Therefore, the present work aimed to present the changes in vegetation cover in RIDE Grande Teresina, through remote sensing techniques and NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index), in order to detect changes in the network of municipalities through temporal analysis. The images used were from the Sentinel 2 satellite in the years 2020, 2022 and 2024. The results show that in the period from 2020 to 2024 there was a significant loss of vegetation in RIDE Grande Teresina, 67,954 hectares.pt_BR
