dc.description.abstract INTRODUCTION: Dacryocystography (DCG) was established as an appropriate radiological imaging method to examine the lacrimal duct, providing information on changes and narrowing in the region. Based on this procedure, it is necessary to distinguish the details of this anatomical structural division that consists of the nasolacrimal duct, the superior canaliculus, the inferior canaliculus, the common canaliculus and the lacrimal sac. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the efficiency of the dacryocystography exam in investigating obstructions and other changes in the lacrimal system. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This study was carried out based on an integrative literature review of scientific articles available in databases, such as SciELO, PubMed and BVS. Initially, a survey of studies was carried out and synthesized according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria proposed for the study. Articles that presented updated information on the dacryocystography exam were selected, outlining the most important concepts on the research topic to support the work. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: The study obtained a total of 55.678 articles, of which 18 articles were considered relevant to the study. Therefore, it is worth noting that the DCG exam proved to be essential in the evaluation of partial or total obstructions of the lacrimal ducts, especially in cases of dacryocystitis. CONCLUSION: The effective capacity of DCG is obtained in relation to other methods for functional assessment of the lacrimal apparatus, despite the discomfort associated with the procedure, DCG offers noticeable quality and clarity visualization of the anatomy of the lacrimal system, allowing the precise identification of blockages and narrowings.pt_BR
