Doenças prevalentes nos bairros Nova Corrente e Vermelhão, localizados na cidade de Corrente, no estado do Piauí

Abstract

Waterborne diseases became more present in the lives of the population after the Industrial Revolution process, at the end of the xviii century, as the forms of production and use of natural resources were changed, thus generating several health-related problems, scarcity of water resources and problems related to the environment, directly affecting the quality of life of the population. The lack of sanitary sewage, water supply, solid waste collection and rainwater drainage are also factors that tend to increase the prevalence of certain diseases. In view of this, the research aimed to identify waterborne diseases and related diseases, prevalent in the Nova Corrente and Vermelhão neighborhoods, located in the city of Corrente, in the state of Piauí. To carry out the research, the following procedures were chosen: characterization of the study area, obtaining field data provided by the municipal health department of the municipality of Corrente, analysis and results. For this, on-site visits and bibliographical research were necessary for the theoretical basis. The results obtained showed that several factors directly and indirectly influence the prevalence of diseases in the studied neighborhoods, such as: socioeconomic conditions, burning of waste, environmental conditions, difficulty in accessing health services, among others. With this, it is suggested the suggestion of campaigns that aim to contribute to the awareness of the population, since the majority of them do not have the knowledge of how to combat the diseases that most affect their environment. It is also suggested that access to information and professionals be facilitated so that there are better results in future research, as this is a public health study that affects not only the two neighborhoods studied, but also the other neighborhoods of the municipality
