Abstract

The study has as general objective to understand forensic chemistry its importance in the use of investigations from the main techniques. And outlined, in this direction, as a research problem, this study brings the following guiding question of the research: What are the main modern techniques used in Forensic Chemistry and how these techniques are used within forensic science in uncovering cases? To carry out this study, it uses the technique and method to validate information and bibliography. Therefore, it fits as being of exploratory level, with the type of bibliographic research, with a qualitative-quantitative, descriptive approach and field research. Each one is explained within the steps taken in the investigation. Nowadays, a reality not only in the city of Picos, but in all of Brazil, lies in the low number of works published in the area of Forensic Chemistry and thus, there is a need to improve and even create more accurate, faster and more efficient techniques. able to meet the demands. In the municipality of Picos, working conditions in the field of forensic chemistry are fragile and have only a few techniques that can clarify some cases due to scarcity of resources. One of the procedures or techniques most used and available in the municipalities, according to research carried out, is the identification of substances similar to the drugs marijuana and cocaine. These are colorimetric tests, which are simple methods that show the presence or absence of these substances in different materials. From the research carried out, this study shows that the city needs greater investment in forensic chemistry and a larger professional staff to meet the needs of the city. The research shows the importance of techniques for investigations and the ability to deal with forensic chemistry to achieve success in the search for results. Thus, forensic chemistry is relevant in the elucidation of crimes and its role is increasingly consolidated in this context. In this regard, it is recognized that this area is an area that is within the investigation and is part of the judiciary as it acts as a support to unveil, through techniques and resources, important cases with social repercussions
