Abstract

ABSTRACT

This article is about the importance of teaching Environmental Education for Elementary School II students. In an attempt to evaluate academic discussions about the teaching of Environmental Education for the final years of Elementary School, this proposal is based on theoretical dialogue with authors who seek to reflect on the growing demand for awareness of the environmental situation, therefore, we resort to a bibliographical review was carried out to articulate and synthesize the debate proposed in the period from 2011 to 2023. Thus, the general objective of this research is to establish a reflection on the importance of environmental education in the final years of Elementary School, through educational preservation practices and habits of nature in the school, family or social environment while indicating the social role of the school. According to the criteria, 08 articles were selected, their analysis meets the need to expand and enhance this topic, while reiterating its founding role in the social, historical and political context of the worsening environmental crisis that we are going through throughout the world. This debate raises as a conclusion the importance of teaching Environmental Education in Elementary Education and beyond, while also indicating the school's capacity to be a vector for the dissemination of specialized knowledge on this topic. By occupying a privileged place in society, this institution has mechanisms capable of reaching a significant portion of the population about the urgency of this discussion and changing habits that are harmful to the environment and human beings.
