O letramento matemático no contexto de resolução de situações-problema no ensino fundamental - anos finais

Abstract

Mathematical literacy is an essential skill in Elementary Education, as it aims to prepare students to understand, interpret and apply mathematical concepts in practical everyday situations. However, the ability to solve problem situations at this level of education can represent a significant challenge for students. Among the main difficulties are the interpretation of statements, the choice of appropriate strategies and the application of mathematical knowledge in a contextualized way. With a view to encouraging discussion on this topic, the objective of this research was to analyze how mathematical literacy can contribute to the development of skills for solving problem situations in Elementary School – Final Years. The research used a qualitative approach of the bibliographic study type, analyzing academic productions, official documents, such as the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC) and works including Dante (2011), Polya (1995) and Soares (1998). This methodology made it possible to identify the main challenges and support reflections on pedagogical strategies that can promote more meaningful teaching. The research showed that mathematical literacy, combined with the use of practices that encourage critical thinking and autonomy, is fundamental to overcoming these difficulties and improving students' performance in problem solving and, consequently, in learning mathematics.
