O "Mundo" representado na Homeschooling

Abstract

Considering that homeschooling is a form of education that disregards the presence of the school in the formation of students and with the imminence of becoming a legalized teaching modality in Brazil, there is an urgent need to debate it in the face of the role of the school. Therefore, this study aimed to problematize the time and democratic space of homeschooling in presenting the world, based on the idea of the school presented in the book In Defense of School, by Jan Masschelein and Maarten Simons. Based on the problem of knowing what is the collective and democratic space to present the world in homeschooling, a bibliographic research was carried out on the SciELO website, mapping the productions that discuss homeschooling. Brazilian legislative discussions were analyzed to understand what is expected with its regulation as a teaching modality and the findings were problematized with the evoked meaning of the school. Enunciative regularities were observed, which were organized into two groups: “Homeschooling: the right to educate, individual freedom and privatization” and “Homeschooling: useful, quality and safe education”. In the statements, the preference for homeschooling is related to the right of families to choose the type of education for their children and to the criticism of the low quality of education at the school and the violence that surrounds its space. When problematizing these statements, we can see a tendency for individualization of people reflected in the search for a more exclusive and private education. This movement is dissonant with the idea of school as a collective and democratic space for the presentation of the world.
