Perfil de ácidos graxos da semente de goiaba (Psidium guajava L.)

Abstract

The Psidium guajava L. (guava) is a medium-sized tree belonging to the Myrtaceae family, which is one of the most important flowering plants in Brazil, the fruit of this tree is called guava, and is considered an important fruit widely distributed in Tropical and subtropical regions. Brazil occupies the second place of the world's largest producer of white guava and is the largest producer of red Guavas. The purpose of this work is to investigate the composition of fatty acid present in the guava seed, reporting its application and benefits, through a bibliographical survey, in which a compilation of academic papers was carried out to address this Thematic in the Science Direct and SciELO (Scientific electronic Library on line) database published during the period 2008 to 2018, in the Portuguese and English language. Three scientific papers were found to meet the established criteria, being 2 (two) articles and 1 (one) thesis. Fatty acids that showed a higher percentage in the lipid profile were stearic and palmitic acids (saturated), linoleic and Oleic (unsaturated), and elaídico acid (monosaturated trans). It has been realized that guava is a widely appreciated fruit and has great potential to be an excellent source of fatty acids, which can have a range of beneficial applications for humans.
