Conhecimentos etnomatemáticos de uma pessoa surda na prática da confeitaria

Abstract

The article aims to emphasize the relationship between Ethnomathematics and deaf culture in order to understand the knowledge and practices that influence the construction of language and mathematical thinking of a deaf person in the practice of confectionery. Thus, the general objective was to understand the implications of family and school education on the development of language and ethnomathematical thinking of a deaf person in the context of confectionery production in Amarante do Piauí. The specific objectives were to reflect on the construction of this ethnomathematical knowledge and its ethnomodels. In order to achieve this, a qualitative study was carried out, using bibliographical research and Google Scholar as a search tool. Field research was also carried out using interviews (translated into sign language/gestures), direct observation and audiovisual recording with a smartphone. The study made it possible to map the artifacts used to make quantifications, counts and measurements (strokes, lid and shape) and the artifacts that the confectioner uses to make the measurements, using two glasses in different sizes, the first a 600 ml glass and the second a 250 ml glass, which correspond to the basic units of mass and volume measurements, respectively. Starting with the use of the glasses, we have the use of the fingers to indicate the quantity of materials for the production of the dough for the medium cake, which are wheat, sugar and water
