Xadrez e matemática: uma relação por meio do raciocínio lógico.

Abstract

With the low performances of Brazilian students in national and international assessments, there is an urgent need to find good strategies that help the teaching and learning of mathematics. Considering that the game of chess is investigated by many authors as a game that can contribute to the learning of mathematics, this article aims to investigate, based on Pearson’s correlation, the level of correlation between chess and mathematics using a test of logical reasoning and the result of a chess championship held at a state school in the city of Teresina-Pi, with 14 high school students. It is basic research, with both a quantitative and qualitative approach, but it also uses bibliographic reviews. With the methodology used, a low correlation between chess and mathematics was identified, concluding that, through the means used in the research, there is no direct relationship between the practice of chess and performance in mathematics.
