Levantamento das práticas entomofágicas na comunidade rural de Juritianha (Viçosa do Ceará/Ce)

Abstract

The world population is constantly growing and, consequently, the demand for food also tends to grow. The need for alternatives that solve or minimize these food and socio-environmental issues becomes increasingly urgent. Therefore, encouraging the consumption of insect-based foods can be one of the viable solutions, since it is a practice considered ancient by many peoples. There are several studies on the subject of entomophagy, however the results are still scarce when compared to the amount of insects that can be used as food. The study of entomophagy opens up ways to search for new food sources and minimize food insecurity in the face of population growth, especially for future generations. The study was carried out in the rural community of Juritianha, municipality of Viçosa do Ceará, in the state of Ceará, northeastern Brazil. Entomophageal information was collected through exploratory research that aims to promote greater affinity with the problem in order to make it more understandable. The collection of qualitative and quantitative data took place through the application of a questionnaire (appendix) in a sample of people from the community. There were 20 people within the age group of 18 to 83 years old. The work developed brings discussions that go beyond a survey of entomophagy practices. These are accounts that shape the history of the studied community. These are reports that make up the history of the studied community, full of information that can be lost over time, as they contain practices that are no longer carried out, many of which are unknown by the younger population
