Abstract

The need for water conservation has been increasingly valued as its availability and quality is reduced, lack of basic sanitation contributes to the inadequate discharge of sewage into the environment, and consequently to impacts on health and quality of life. This study aimed to identify the main causes of non-use of the sanitary sewage network by the population of the central area of the city of Corrente - PI, emphasizing the population's perception about the situation of the basic sanitation service in the region. Therefore, the methodologies were used, the first being the bibliographical and documentary research, the second quantitative investigation, with elaboration and then the application of semistructured questionnaires to a sample of the urban population of the city of Corrente-PI, and lastly the mapping of the network downtown neighborhood. However, the information acquired differs from what the legislation and the master plan of the municipality determine. It is concluded that through the research carried out that the majority of the population of the central area of Corrente has no connection to the sanitation system of the municipality, where few have knowledge about the network in their streets and suffer from the lack of the system, which by its However, there is a large gap in terms of care, since it is not enough to serve the entire population.
